Introduction to Back to Beginnings

Category: Therapy

Dates: October 1, 2010 - October 3, 2010

Venue: Samye Ling

Course Leader: Edie Irwin

Price: £62

This weekend will provide an introduction to 'Back to Beginnings', the therapeutic process developed by Akong Rinpoche and the Tara Rokpa therapists who have worked with him for the past 30 years. This very subtle and gentle form of exploration is based in the Buddhist model of the mind as clear, open and tending towards wisdom and compassion as part of its natural process. Relaxation is the underlying basis for the whole approach. This brief introduction gives a taste and chance to practise in one weekend some of the simple methods which are used in the 'Back to Beginnings' therapy groups. Completion of this weekend will serve as the prerequisite for joining a 'Back to Beginnings' group for those who are interested to do so.

The methods used include relaxation and visualisation exercises as given by Akong Rinpoche, simple self-massage and massage with a partner, writing to know oneself better, and free and guided work with art materials.

Recent research has shown value for body and mind in the practice of mindfulness and the intentional development of a compassionate attitude. 'Back to Beginnings' gives the opportunity to develop these well-tested approaches for oneself and for one's relationships to others.

Wear loose, comfortable clothing and come ready to enjoy the time and space with others.
